In the never ending quest to find love, millions of people have tried “on-line” dating sites like Black People Meet, Match.com and others, some have had the pleasure(or displeasure) of going on “blind dates” and most of us have met potential dates the old fashioned way at night clubs, the grocery store, the office and other such places. Even with all of those possibilities to meet the “one”, according to a CNN article “there are 96 million people in the United States who have no spouse. That means that 43 percent of all Americans over the age of 18 are single, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. ” Of that percentage of single people, 61 percent have never been married.So if you are one of the people who have tried it all and are still single, how about trying something new, fun and quick? Ever heard of “Speed Dating?” Well, before I go any further let me give you a little background on speed dating and then I will tell you where you can go in Las Vegas to try your luck, no not the casino games kind of luck but luck in the game of love and connection. Wikipedia describes it like this: Speed dating is described as a formalized matchmaking process or dating system whose purpose is to encourage people to meet a large number of new people in a short amount of time. Men and women are rotated to meet each other over a series of short “dates”, usually lasting from 3 to 8 minutes depending on the organization running the event. At the end of each interval, the organizer rings a bell, clinks a glass, or blows a whistle to alert the group that it’s time to change stations. If there is interest, the parties exchange numbers, then they move on to the next set of “dates”. Sounds fun doesn’t it?Word has it that the first speed dating event took place in Beverly Hills at Peet’s Café’ in late 1998. “Soon afterward, several commercial services began offering secular round-robin dating events across the United States. By 2000, speed dating was seen on popular shows like Sex in the Cityas something glamorous people did.” “According to supporters, speed dating saves time, as most people quickly decide if they are romantically compatible “at hello” and find that first impressions are often permanent. “ Remember the saying “love at first sight?” It certainly will hold true here. Today one can find and participate in speed dating events almost anywhere in the country, including Las Vegas.
